Welcome to the Camino Schools!
One of the reasons I am most excited to be part of the Camino Schools is because it is literally an answer to prayer. As an Orange County native, born and raised, I turned first to the OC when contemplating where to send my oldest child as she was approaching school age. By that point in my career, I had thankfully been exposed to the growing renewal movement within Catholic education that was rooted in a return to the classical liberal arts tradition that the Church inherited from the Greeks and Romans and perfected over two millennia. Sadly, there were no options at the time and we were forced to look elsewhere. So, when I first read about the vision of the Camino Schools, my heart leapt. Families in and around Orange County now have the opportunity to give their children the gift of an education that is truly rooted in authentic human flourishing, and I could not be more grateful to be part of it.
As you explore these pages, my hunch is that you will fall into one of two categories. The first is the category that I would have fallen into back in 2018 as I was seeking a school for my own children. It would have been something like, “Yes! This is exactly what I have been looking for!” If you find yourself in this category, you have probably already been exposed in some way to the explosion of classical education and want it for your own children. The second category might be something more like, “I don’t know exactly what they mean by ‘classical’ education, but there’s definitely something about what I’m reading that is resonating with me.”
If you find yourself in the first category, let me be the first to say, “Congratulations!” The vision of the Camino Schools is one of the finest I’ve encountered in over two decades in Catholic education and, if you live anywhere near Orange County, it is now a realistic option for your family.
If you find yourself in the second category, let me be the first to say, “Welcome!” I was once in your shoes and I can assure you that you have much to look forward to. Most of us have simply never been exposed to the richness of the Church’s vision for education. And let me tell you, as a parent myself, once you come to understand what’s possible, there’s no gift in the world you’ll feel better about giving your child.
Lastly, I want to reiterate the fact that the Camino Schools is much more than a school project. It’s a cultural endeavor. As such, we look forward to getting to know you and your family. We are here to answer your questions, either over the phone or, preferably, in person. So please reach out as questions arise and attend an event as soon as you are able. We look forward to partnering with you in this vital mission, for the sake of our children and the culture they will one day inherit.
